The Sustainability Issues and Algorithmic Approach
Abstract
The architecture needs to follow the principles from nature to be more efficient and self sustaining; the architecture should be like a living organism, in terms of its form and functions. It can also be achieve through the use of computer technology, the computers are being used to extend the potentials of human mind. Today through use of computer technology, humans are able perform such operations which were not possible before. Computers are proved to be very helpful in almost each and every field. Same way use of computer also exists in architecture. In architecture computers are not only being used for structural simulation and analysis, however it’s also being used in designing architecture. It is known as the Algorithmic Architecture, in which the forms are generated through algorithms. The algorithmic approach of architecture has the potential to simulate nature; it can generate forms and spaces based on the nature’s algorithms with extreme crystalline regularity. Currently we are dealing with many sustainability issues, if we just take our precedent from nature and mimic its systems, we can overcome these issues especially the energy efficiency issue by adapting functions and systems from nature, same way if we apply algorithms as they exist in nature to generate design. We will able to mimic the design part of nature based on fractal geometry of nature, the design outcome will be near to "growing buildings as tree". So with this approach, the architecture will be like a living organism, as a part of nature. By working in this direction we can make sustainable future.
